The Volkl Blaze 106 skis are the widest offering in the Blaze lineup, measuring 106-millimeters under the boot. With this kind of waist width, you have excellent soft snow and powder capabilities to float, smear, pivot and slash your way down the mountain. Volkl uses a Hybrid Multilayer wood core in the Blaze 106, which is impressively lightweight. They also add a Titanal Binding Platform for binding retention, which also gives the Blaze 106 a stronger feel underfoot than you might expect just looking at its weight. Speaking of weight, its just 1593 grams and the Blaze 106 is one of the lightest freeride skis out there, barring touring specific skis. It has long rocker lines, although there isn’t a ton of splay in the tip and tails. This is a super fun and energetic ski with lots of maneuverability, with ability to make a variety of turn shapes- short, medium and long depending on where you pressure the ski. And due to its camber underfoot, you can carve some impressive turns on hardpack and groomers for a 100+ waisted ski. And due its light weight, this is an ideal 50/50, resort/touring ski when mounting a hybrid binding like a Marker Kingpin or Duke PT. For freeskiers looking for a versatile ski that equally at home on the chairlift as it is on the skin track, the Volkl Blaze 106 is sure to please a lot of skiers.
