February, 10th
Well, it snowed last night, (we got about 2”) but it was then followed by rain, which was pretty steady throughout the night and into the early morning hours. Its still warm, but temperatures will be dropping as the day progresses with strong north winds. The backcountry will be treacherous today, and travel is not advised. It’s a good day to sharpen those edges, hop on the Quad or Gondola and hit the lifts at Stowe Mountain Resort. There is a chance of some snow this afternoon and into this evening, with potentially 2-4” forecasted in the upper elevations. This could set us up for some low angle touring over the weekend, but we have to wait an see what we get for totals. There is a fair amount of sun forecasted for the weekend, so it will be a nice time to get outside and get some vitamin D. The cross-country skiing will also be very good too, so don’t overlook that aspect of skiing either. Cross country skiing tends to be very good when the backcountry and resort skiing are sub par. In the meantime, do your snow dances and pray for snow. We will leave you with where we stand for snow as of yesterday from the upper snow stake at Mt. Mansfield.
